Description

LOCATION: Greater Cleveland Food Bank - Cleveland, OH

HOURS: Full-Time; Monday - Friday between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

TIMEFRAME: June 2025 - August 2025 (10 weeks total)

COMPENSATION: $20 per hour

The Greater Cleveland Food Bank Summer Internship Program offers current college students, those in higher education, or recent graduates a chance to learn, engage, and grow. This ten-week program provides practical workplace experience, experiential learning, and professional development opportunities. Start dates will be determined based on college/higher education's class schedule.

Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of an initial background check, drug screening, physical examination, and employment verification, and will be completed during the onboarding process. Please note that the Food Bank does not sponsor work visas for our positions. Candidates must have the legal right to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Food Bank's operations.
  • Complete a project that enhances the assigned department and present it at the end of the program.
  • Research and analyze new policies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with staff on critical projects and processes.
  • Attend staff meetings and community events.
  • Participate in enrichment activities highlighting key programs, services, and functions of the Food Bank.


Requirements

POTENTIAL PLACEMENTS:

COMMUNICATIONS: The ideal candidate may have a background or strong interest in marketing, communications, journalism, or public relations. They should possess skills in writing, marketing, photography, and event planning. During their internship at GCFB, they will assist with organizing small-scale internal events and preparing for larger fundraisers. They will also be responsible for collecting and documenting neighbors' stories to create engaging external content that highlights the impact of GCFB's work.

DEVELOPMENT: The ideal candidate may have a background or interest in communications, philanthropy, public relations, or nonprofit management. They should have experience in public speaking, writing, research, and data management. During their internship at GCFB, they will assist with the Summer Feeding Program, conduct tours of GCFB facilities for visitors, make thank-you calls to donors, and manage donor data. Their role will be crucial in supporting the development team's efforts to engage and retain donors.

FOOD AS MEDICINE: The ideal candidate may have a background or interest in nutrition, public policy, community engagement, and food justice. They should have experience in data management, customer service, and public speaking. During their internship at GCFB, they will assist in implementing new collaborative processes with healthcare sector partners to expand Food as Medicine initiatives. This includes helping to establish the program, develop procedures, and manage data processes to ensure the initiative's success.

FOOD RESOURCES: The ideal candidate may have a background or interest in operations and quality assurance. They should have experience in compliance, data management, and research. During their internship at GCFB, they will support quality assurance projects, review the current product recall process, research recall procedures for USDA, FDA, and Feeding America contracts, and develop/update food production and recall procedures. This role involves working closely with the Continuous Improvement, Compliance, and Communication teams to ensure food safety and quality standards are met.

HUMAN RESOURCES: The ideal candidate may have a background or interest in human resources, or business administration. They should have experience in public speaking, writing, data management, and research. During their internship at GCFB, they will assist the human resources department in a project conducting interviews with various employees to understand their job duties and qualifications. The end result of this project will lead to updating job descriptions throughout the company.

LEGAL/COMPLIANCE: The ideal candidate may have a background or interest in compliance and legal issues. The should have experience in legal research, compliance, writing, and public speaking. During their time at GCFB, they will assist with a multitude of projects including contract management, risk assessment, document review, Board governance, and Compliance research. Graduate (law or other) student preferred.

MEASUREMENT: The ideal candidate should have a background or interest in analytics, mathematics, and data science. They should possess strong organizational skills and be proficient in data analysis. During their time at GCFB, they will assist in measuring and analyzing program outcomes, helping to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of GCFB's initiatives.

PROGRAMS: The ideal candidate should have strong organizational and communication skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications. This position supports the programs team by assisting with Child Nutrition Initiatives (CNI). The intern will help implement the Summer Feeding Service Program at the Community Resource Center and assist with SFSP site visits and administrative tasks related to CNI programs. An unencumbered driver's license is required for this position.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate should have a background or interest in people management and volunteering, with strong communication and customer service skills. Duties will include implementing volunteer engagement initiatives, preparing the annual volunteer survey, and creating thank-you emails and communications. Previous or current volunteer experience is a plus, as it will help the intern understand and connect with the volunteer community.
