Job Description

Job Posting: Senior Air Reserve Technician Officer

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Senior Air Reserve Technician (ART) Officer with overall supervision and management of either an Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, a Maintenance Squadron, an Equipment Maintenance Squadron or a Component Maintenance Squadron at an Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) unit-equipped or associate unit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning, organizing, and overseeing the activities of the squadron. Managing assigned maintenance resources and ensuring production meets operational requirements and technical standards.
  • Exercising supervisory personnel management responsibilities to include personnel and position management, equal opportunity, security, and safety.
  • Representing the organization with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Establishing, developing, and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

Requirements include:

  • Superior qualifications may be considered.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be a current member of the AF Reserves or willing/qualified to join.
  • A security clearance may be required.
  • If authorized, PCS will be paid IAW JTR and AF Regulations.
  • Total salary varies depending on location of position.
  • This posn is subject to provision of the DoD Priority Placement Program.
  • Must sign a mobility agreement.
  • Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the Air Force Reserve.
  • Position may be subject to random drug testing.
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Shift work and emergency overtime may be required.

Qualifications:

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Officer position located at 512 MAINTENANCE SQ with the military rank of Lt COL/O5 AFSC: 021A3. For questions concerning military eligibility please contact the Air Force Reserve Qualification Center at 1-800-257-1212.

To qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. Specialized experience includes:

  • At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade or equivalent which includes the knowledge of aircraft maintenance management practices, procedures and organizational and mission requirements, capabilities and limitations.
  • The ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.

Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the next lower grade level or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Broad knowledge of aircraft maintenance management practices, procedures and organizational and mission requirements; capabilities and limitations.
  • Knowledge of basic operating principles of assigned aircraft systems and components; basic munitions, munitions procedures and quality assurance and other unit operations.
  • Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors.
  • Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Other significant facts:

  • This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA).
  • AFRC command-wide geographic mobility is a condition of employment for all ART officer positions.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • The incumbent must obtain and retain a SECRET security clearance level designated for the position.
  • This is a key management position in which the incumbent is required to formulate, determine or influence training policies of the unit to which assigned.

Part-time or unpaid experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and/or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer work experience: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

As members of Reserve units, Air Reserve Technicians receive on average one weekend of military training per month.
