GENERAL SUMMARY The Structural Engineer reports to the Managing Director. Building Services supports clients for projects that do not fall into the 'typical' engineering category. These services include building/system assessments, upgrades, feasibility studies, sustainment, and maintenance programs. Emergency and disaster response/repair, code compliance, etc. This is a managed pool of a collective of cross-disciplines to complete the assignment/task.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

General duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Proficient technical knowledge in structural engineering and general building systems (MEP, Fire, and Site) is necessary.
- This position makes design decisions with limited oversight.
- Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex design issues and receives supervisory approval on proposed project plans.
- Coordinating with other internal and/or external team members is necessary.
- Travel requirements can be up to 20% with overnight stays.
- Site assessments frequently require access via ladders, scissors, or articulating boom lifts.
- Emergency response (engineering in nature) for weather events, fires, impacts, explosions, and availability to respond timely.
- Site assessment may include active construction, damaged or demolition sites.
- Frequently meet with clients and maintain strong client relationships.
- Assist in servicing client needs for emergency and routine assignments.
- Track workflow for clients, including assisting with close-out accounting.
- Assist in managing multiple personnel and client assignments.
- Interaction with multiple offices and professions.
- Create/review conditional assessments and other client deliverables.
- Travel/site assessments.
- Provide backup engineering support to the structural engineering department.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES - General understanding of building systems, including civil/site, roofing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and paving.
- Design software experience, including Risa3D, RisaFloor, Enercalc, and RetainPro.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and staff assignments.
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients and tend to client requests.
- Highly organized, detail-driven, and conscientious
- Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills.
- Must be willing to travel with little notice and no travel restrictions (travel requirements are 20% typically).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering with a concentration in structures.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience, of which 3 years were working with existing buildings and renovations and focused on commercial projects.
- Conditional assessment, E2018 experience, and field experience is strongly desired.
- Registered professional/structural engineer or the ability to be licensed within 1 year of hire is required for advancement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a standard office setting, onsite at client locations, and on construction/building sites.
