Job Description

Position Summary:  Responsible for keeping buildings inside and outside in a clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and showers and removing rubbish. Duties shall include the general grounds upkeep of mowing grass, trimming and mulching shrubs and cleaning snow and debris from sidewalks and drives. Duties may also include performing routine maintenance activities and repairs, notifying management of need for repairs and the task of moving furniture and equipment to set up rooms for occupancy and for daily and special events.

Position responsibilities:

Daily:

Supply toilet paper and paper towels in all dispensers.

Clean and disinfect all restroom sinks, counter tops, toilets and urinals.

Clean mirrors, chrome fixtures, and shower fixtures.

Wet mop and disinfect all restroom and shower floors.

Clean all drinking fountains tops and sides.

Vacuum or sweep and mop all floors, including all stairways, lounges and other rooms.

Clean all entrance glass.

Spot clean walls, doors and door frames, baseboards and stair treads.

Wipe away all cobwebs.

Pick up debris and sweep all entrances and outside porches and steps.

Empty trash cans and keep them clean inside and out.

Clean all chalkboards remove all trash from floor and under desks and straighten chairs in classrooms.

Always turn out lights, close windows, lock up when you leave.

Keep leaves, sticks and trash picked up from walks parking lots and yard.

Clean all other areas at the direction of supervision.

Do other repairs as directed to assist the maintenance department in keeping the buildings clean and in good repair.

Help and/or substitute for other maintenance and custodial employees as needed.

As needed but at least weekly:

Dust all furniture and ledges.

Spot clean carpets.  Shampoo the entire room if needed.

Clean all janitor closets and boiler rooms.

Clean all toilet partition walls and doors.

Replace any burned out light bulbs.

Keep all ceiling tile in place.

Buff all tile floors.

Clean outside pillars and porches.

Mow grass and trim during the season.

Remove snow and ice from walks, steps and drives as needed.

Report any damage as soon as it is noted.

Strip and wax all tile floors during long furloughs.

Essential skills and experience:

Must be able to read, understand and apply written instructions, including Material Safety Data Sheets.

Customer service experience with young people.

Physical demands and work environment:  the physical demands and work environmentcharacteristicsdescribed here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical demands:  While performing this job, the employee must be able to lift 75 pounds, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms (both), balance, stoop, stand on a ladder; and stand for at least two hours at a time. The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Work environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather conditions with slipping, tripping and bumping hazards.   Exposure to cleaning chemicals is a daily occurrence.
