Job Description

A Director of Sales is responsible for driving new business growth and overseeing outside sales performance across multiple markets. This role focuses heavily on field engagement, sales execution, and customer development, while also providing strategic oversight to ensure pricing consistency, margin targets, and revenue goals are achieved. The Director will work closely with sales teams, branch managers, and executive leadership to grow market share and strengthen customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage outside sales teams, setting clear expectations around revenue, margin, and territory growth.
  • Regularly meet with key customers and prospects to develop business, secure large project opportunities, and strengthen long-term relationships.
  • Collaborate with inside sales and branch leadership to ensure seamless coordination between field and office teams.
  • Review sales activity, pipeline health, and project forecasts with outside sales reps on a regular basis.
  • Guide reps through high-value quoting opportunities, pricing strategy, and competitive positioning.
  • Develop territory-specific growth strategies with outside sales and branch teams.
  • Analyze sales reports to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities; implement corrective actions where needed.
  • Actively participate in jobsite visits, customer meetings, and industry events to stay connected to the field.
  • Support the onboarding, training, and ongoing development of outside sales reps, including product knowledge and solution selling.
  • Partner with purchasing and vendor teams to ensure product availability aligns with project needs.
  • Help define and refine customer pricing strategies and large project bid processes.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through proactive communication, timely issue resolution, and consistent follow-through.
  • Contribute to company-wide sales planning, forecasting, and performance tracking initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of successful outside sales leadership experience, preferably in the construction supply or distribution space.
  • Proven ability to grow accounts, build strong client relationships, and lead high-performing sales teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both internally and with customers.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience interpreting sales data and setting actionable strategies.
  • Proficiency with sales technology and CRM platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Willingness to travel regionally to support team and customer needs.
