Job Description

As a Machine Operator at General Devices Co Inc, you will use both hand- and power-tools to assemble metal structures of various types following work instructions, prints, or other graphic representations to ensure you build the product to customer specifications. General Devices is located on the far Southeast side of Indianapolis north of Brookville Road on Post Road Shift is generally 6 AM to 2:30 PM. Some overtime may be required Starting pay rate is typically $18 per hour What you will do : Inspect parts for the operations performed at your workstation and at previous workstations to ensure that they meet defined quality standards at each phase of the production process. Drill, ream, tap, bore, etc., a wide variety of large and complicated parts to close tolerances. Lay out work from prints. Perform difficult set-ups on irregular shaped parts and where alignment and accuracy are difficult to maintain. Select feeds, speeds, tooling, coolant, determine sequence of operations and fixtures needed. Requires the ability to read calipers, gauges, etc. Will advise and direct other employees when necessary. Must practice Company Safety Guidelines and OSHA Requirements for all areas. May be asked to work in a variety of different departments and/or operate various machines depending upon need. Perform other related and non-related duties as assigned. The skills/abilities you bring: A positive attitude Knowledge of how to read calipers and measuring tape Excellent eye-hand coordination Ability to follow instructions Ability to use various machines Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to read and Implement plans, blueprints, and drawings Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required 2 years of Metal manufacturing/Drill Press experience preferred Experience using both hand- and power- tools Physical Requirements: Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform tasks Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
