Join our dedicated team of remote education professionals providing critical communication access to deaf and hard of hearing students across Michigan's virtual learning environments. We're seeking a skilled Educational Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate inclusive educational experiences through innovative online platforms.

Position Overview

This full-time remote position offers 36 hours per week providing interpreting services for approximately 18-20 students across elementary through high school grade levels. You'll deliver real-time ASL interpretation through secure virtual platforms while supporting meaningful educational participation for deaf and hard of hearing learners.

Core Interpreting Responsibilities

• Provide simultaneous ASL interpretation during virtual classroom instruction and educational activities
• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and educational team members
• Interpret for virtual IEP meetings, parent conferences, and administrative consultations
• Collaborate closely with deaf education teachers and related service providers
• Adapt interpreting techniques for optimal visual clarity and engagement in online environments
• Support student participation in virtual extracurricular activities and social learning opportunities
• Maintain professional interpreting ethics, confidentiality standards, and cultural sensitivity

Educational Support Focus

Your interpreting services will support students across diverse academic subjects including core curriculum areas, specialized instruction sessions, and related services delivery. You'll work with students who utilize various communication modalities and may require additional visual supports for comprehensive learning access.

Essential Qualifications

• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher (required)
• Minimum 2 years of experience providing educational interpreting services in school settings
• Fluency in American Sign Language with strong English language proficiency
• Demonstrated ability to interpret effectively in virtual learning environments and online platforms
• Comprehensive knowledge of deaf culture, educational terminology, and age-appropriate language adaptation
• Strong professional ethics and unwavering commitment to interpreting standards and best practices
• Reliable technology setup with high-quality video capabilities and professional lighting

Preferred Qualifications

• EIPA score of 4.0 or higher demonstrating advanced interpreting competency
• Written EIPA certification showing comprehensive assessment skills
• RID/NIC national certification with successful completion of written examination
• Extensive experience with online learning platforms and virtual classroom management systems
• Background in educational interpreting across multiple grade levels and subject areas

Technology Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate extensive experience with video conferencing platforms and the technical ability to provide clear, professional visual interpretation through online mediums. A dedicated workspace with appropriate lighting, optimal camera positioning, and stable high-speed internet connection is absolutely essential for effective interpreting services.
