Overview

Executive Director and Head of Research Computational Biology at Revolution Medicines. The role oversees the scientific and strategic direction of systems biology research and preclinical computational biology initiatives within the Biology Function, leading a team of computational biologists and bioinformaticians to analyze large multi-omics data sets to inform treatment strategies and patient stratification for a growing pipeline of RAS(ON) and targeted oncology therapeutics.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic vision and leadership: Develop and implement a long-term strategy for research systems biology and bioinformatic activities to support a growing pipeline of RAS(ON) and novel targeted inhibitors. Lead and supervise a team to generate, organize, and interpret large data sets to inform therapeutic and combination strategies for cancer patients.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work across research, translational, development, and medical affairs to advance programs from discovery to clinical development using insights from computational approaches. Leverage clinical data from RVMD investigational agents to generate proprietary insights into RAS mutant tumor biology and inhibitor mechanisms of action.
  • Technical leadership and innovation: Oversee analysis of large, high-dimensional datasets, data integration and visualization on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Guide the development and application of statistical analysis, AI/ML methods, generative AI models, and MLOps to biomarker discovery, drug target identification, and predictive modeling. Establish modern workflow management and reproducible research practices (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow).
  • External collaboration: Cultivate academic and industry partnerships, including CROs. Represent the company at scientific conferences, maintain an active publication record, and drive IP strategy and patent filings related to computational discoveries.

Required Skills, Experience and Education

  • Education: Ph.D. in systems biology, computational biology, bioinformatics, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 15+ years in pharmaceutical/biotechnology with management experience.
  • Scientific knowledge: Deep expertise in systems biology, computational biology, and bioinformatics, including multi-omics data integration, modeling, and analysis. Experience with single-cell technologies, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and epigenomics. Oncology experience preferred but not required.
  • Technical: Advanced programming in R, Python, and at least one more language. Proficiency with HPC and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Knowledge of workflow tools and version control. Understanding of MLOps, model deployment, and generative AI in drug discovery.
  • Leadership and management: Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire interdisciplinary teams; experience with budgets and strategic planning at department level; track record of advancing programs from discovery to development.
  • Strategic thinking: Ability to align research and drug development objectives with innovative technologies.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical teams, senior leadership, and external partners.

Base pay salary range for onsite work in Redwood City, CA: $256,000 $320,000 USD. This range is the base pay and may be adjusted for local market factors. Total rewards also include equity, benefits, and development opportunities.
