Description
The position of Fire Protection Engineer includes responsibility to perform a variety of professional duties of a technical and often complex nature, relating to code and standard development and related member and client services. Key to this position is the oversight as a staff liaison of the multiyear updating of the International Fire Code (IFC) and International Existing Building Code (IEBC) and the International Wildland Urban Interface Code (IWUIC). The position provides internal professional and technical support to ICC staff, both within and outside the Codes & Standards Development department of Technical Services, and has frequent telephonic, written, and direct personal contact with members, customers, and the public.

Position Responsibilities: - Providing support for ICC code and standard development committees
- Assisting in the development of code change language that is concise, accurate, and consistent with other code provisions on both an intra- and inter-code basis.
- Working with Publications staff to ensure the accuracy of published code documents.
- Assisting in, and supporting the development of Commentaries and other code-related publications of ICC
- Assisting members with code interpretations and related questions
- Making presentations to professional, governmental and community groups on subjects relating to the promulgation, interpretation, enforcement, and benefits of building codes
- Representing ICC at meetings and conferences
- Representing ICC on fire and life safety standards development committees
- Serving on internal and external committees as assigned - SFPE, NFPA, UL, ASME
- Assisting in educational content development, and conducting ICC seminars as an instructor
- Serving as a technical resource for other ICC departments and functions
- Performing other technical and administrative duties as assigned
Requirements
Essential Skills and Education / Experience: - Baccalaureate and/or master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related degree
- Current professional licensure/registration in Fire Protection Engineering
- Over 5 years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering
- Ability to demonstrate sound working knowledge of fire protection engineering, technical standards development, building code development, application, and/or enforcement.
- Sound understanding of performance-based codes and design.
- Familiar and working knowledge of the ICC Performance Code (ICCPC), ICC International Building Code (IBC), ICC International Existing Building Code (IEBC) and ICC International Fire Code (IFC)
- Membership and participation on fire and life safety development committees such as SFPE, NFPA or UL
- Proven strong technical writing, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to travel locally, nationally, and internationally.
