Position Summary This position assists in the installation, maintenance and operation the MEP systems, in a safe manner. Job requires well developed verbal and writing skills to present and exchange technical information and specifications with MEP supervisor, staff, co-workers, sub-contractors, and outside vendors. Performs work as designated essential personnel. Responsible for producing professional level work output on an independent basis subject to supervisory direction and review.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Aid in monitoring the operation and inspects all M.E.P to include HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical equipment.
- Aid in troubleshoots and repairs M.E.P equipment. Ensures systems are operating efficiently and makes necessary changes to improve operations as needed.
- Assists is changing/programming M.E.P systems according to changing weather conditions and facility needs.
- Responds to complaints and concerns; resolves problems and provides solutions to resolve M.E.P equipment issues.
- Aids in analyzing data in order to manipulate and optimize equipment settings.
- Assists with plumbing and electrical projects as needed; makes basic plumbing and electrical repairs.
- Aids in inspections and repairs commercial kitchen equipment.
- Maintains an inventory of M.E.P equipment and common replacement parts; researches and orders parts.
- Coordinates and supervises the work of contractors.
- Aids in and performs M.E.P control systems programming, troubleshooting, installation, commissioning, and preventative maintenance as it is related to mechanical, electrical, and low voltage controls components.
- Follows all safety standards and attends required safety training. A high degree of regard for employee safety.
- Calibrates systems that require basic electronic test equipment
- Responds to after-hours calls for repair as needed.
- Obtains and maintains certifications as requested by the supervisor to operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, backhoes, front end loaders, sky lifts and snow removal equipment as needed.
- Assists in preparations for special events.
- Performs related duties to include monitoring and completing work orders as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of MEP system inspection principles.
- Technical aptitude in mechanical and electro-mechanical fields. Understands ASHRAE requirements for commercial facilities.
- Able to use hand, power tools and electrical testing equipment such as a multi meter
- Solid knowledge base in use of personal computers
- Knowledge of the operation, repair and maintenance of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing equipment.
- Knowledge of building management software.
- Knowledge of fire and life safety principles and standards.
- Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the operation of front-end loaders, backhoes, forklifts, and snow removal equipment.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Mechanical and Electrical Services Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the International Building Code, the National Electric Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, local fire and building codes, mechanical codes, ASHRAE, energy conservation codes, and college policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related technical duties. The need to integrate old and new systems contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to perform technical duties in the repair and maintenance of campus MEP systems. Success in this position contributes to the provision of a safe and well-maintained environment for college operations.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, students, contractors, vendors, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts (responsible for the movement and lifting of items using appropriate lifting skills) and/or moves light to medium objects up to 50 pounds and lifts and/or moves heavy objects up to 100 pounds with coworker assistance and/ or a lifting aid; climbs ladders; uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity; distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
