Job Description

Job Purpose Support the recovery of members of a micro‑community by providing services to clients recovering from alcohol and/or substance use disorder. The Peer Support Specialist works with clients to establish goals and action plans using a wellness approach. The Specialist assists clients in accessing support services, scheduling appointments, and connecting them with providers. The role promotes community socialization, recovery, self‑advocacy, self‑help, and the development of natural supports. Qualifications Essential Job Responsibilities Collaborate with the Clinical Director and participate in the multidisciplinary team approach to client care. Using a Formal Goal‑Setting Process, the PSS will Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through one‑to‑one and group sessions. Help clients work with their support teams and/or providers to determine the steps required to achieve these goals and pursue self‑directed recovery. Support clients in setting up and sustaining self‑help (mutual support) groups, and help them locate and join existing groups. Utilize tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to create individualized wellness and recovery plans. Teach problem‑solving techniques in individual and group settings, facilitating discussions where clients share common daily challenges and coping methods. Use ongoing individual and group sessions to teach clients how to identify and combat negative self‑talk, and how to overcome fears by providing a forum for sharing experiences. Support clients’ vocational choices and assist them in selecting a job that matches their strengths, reviewing job applications, and providing interview tips. Help clients build social skills that enhance job acquisition and tenure. Utilizing Their Recovery Experience, the PSS will Teach and role‑model the value of every individual’s recovery experience. Assist clients in obtaining decent and affordable housing within an integrated, independent, and least restrictive environment, including transportation to view housing. Model effective coping techniques and self‑help strategies. Serve as a recovery agent by providing and advocating for effective recovery‑based services. Assist clients in obtaining community services that aid the recovery process. Help clients develop empowerment skills and combat stigma through self‑advocacy. Work with clients and other treatment team staff to develop a treatment/recovery plan based on each client’s identified goals. Maintain a working knowledge of current trends in mental health by reading relevant materials and sharing knowledge at continuing education seminars. Maintain and organize files. Perform other duties assigned. Demonstrate exceptional customer service by placing the client first to support Endeavors’ mission to “Empower people to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities.” Essential Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED. Certification: State‑approved Peer Support Specialist certification. Experience: 3+ years of strong administrative/clerical experience; 2+ years social service and/or non‑profit experience preferred. Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined in the employer’s sole discretion. Licenses: Driver’s license with a clear record. Work Location: In‑Person. Vehicle: Must have a vehicle available for daily use without prior notice. Other: Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of self or others; must be available and willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
