Description:

The Physician Assistant (PA) plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, working under the supervision of licensed physicians to provide patient care services. This position demands a strong foundation in medical knowledge, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.

1. Responsible for providing outpatient care to patients showing a change or decline in mental status, chronic or urgent medical conditions.
2. Collaborate with inter-personal colleagues to formulate evidence-based treatment plans for acute and chronic psychiatric disorders.
3. Perform patients’ histories and physicals, risk factor assessment, ordering of therapeutic and diagnostic tests; and attend to patient appointments.
4. Prescribe medications following the clinic’s policy, formulary and relevant regulations of the state in which applying.
5. Consult with physicians on cases that are beyond the scope of qualifications.
6. Put all relevant patient data in medical records and case presentations.
7. Formulate, execute and review healthcare education delivered to patients and families for diseases prevention.
8. Ensure smooth communication with other health professionals for effective delivery of clinical services to patients.
9. Provide consultation to the clinic’s nursing and medical staff for improvement in their work performance, which enhances overall quality service delivery of the clinic.
10. Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring effect of medications; supervising staff provision of services.
11. Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, CMS and private insurance requirements and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews; remaining available for emergency situations in clinic.
12. Provide medication management and education to those seen as patients to ensure excellent clinical outcomes.
13. Functions within the guidelines of the Employment Agreement between Employee and Practice.
14. Works toward providing higher level of services to patients seen in either the out-patient or in patient setting and capturing those billable hours in the documentation provided to the billing department.
15. Comply with the guidelines set by the federal, State, and payor regulations in include all respective laws.
16. Comply with the guidelines State Board of Medical Examiners and the State Board for Physician Assistants for collaboration and quality assurance programs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program

Experience Prior experience in providing mental health counseling services within a clinical setting

License • Must possess a State License in good standing as a Physician Assistant

Qualifications • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant - NCCPA
