SUMMARY:
Reports to the Vice President of Brown University Health Medical Imaging and within hospital and departmental policies and procedures, manages the various accredited technical training programs within the School of Medical Imaging including the compliance with the various appropriate accrediting bodies. Functions as the Program Coordinator of Imaging Program.Defines program goals and objectives and implements changes to educational programs, such as expansion of program. Participates in budget planning of Allied Health Programs within Medical Imaging Services. Assumes the leadership role in the continued development of these programs. Works with Program Coordinators, Clinical Coordinators, Section Coordinators, Lead/Senior Technologists and Tech. IIs to help ensure students experience an optimal environment for learning their clinical skills.
Develops and approves program policies, admissions criteria, and student candidate selection methodologies for the various programs (). Evaluates and modifies curriculum as needed. Ensures completion of accreditation documents, allied health programs educational reports and self-studies for these programs as well as interprets federal and state laws that are applicable to the described documents, reports and self-studies.
Collaborates with the Vice President of Brown University Health Medical Imaging and Rehabilitative Services to develop the operating and capital budgets. Monitors expenses versus approved budget criteria. Establishes operating budget, monitors and reports monthly variations to budget.
Interviews candidates for clerical and faculty positions and makes final hiring recommendations (to HR). Evaluates the performance of clerical staff and faculty. Provides counseling to individual faculty members when improvement is needed. As appropriate, takes necessary corrective action including recommending discharge of staff.
Evaluates the overall quality of educational services provided, makes recommendations when and to whom it is appropriate. Is responsible for the overall quality of teaching and program services that are provided.
Represents the School’s programs at Brown University Health meetings and activities and to external agencies and organizations as requested. Meets with administrators, physicians, and clinical affiliates on related program issues.
Interviews, selects, orients, instructs, provides periodic evaluations, and provides appropriate counseling for students and disciplinary action as may be indicated.
Implements and integrates in-service instruction for incumbent staff (of technologists, nurses, etc. for continuing education requirements.
Develops and maintains the integrity and confidentiality of students’ records.
Maintains level of knowledge and expertise in the professional disciplines and educational methodologies by continuing professional development and participating in ongoing independent studies, education-related professional activities and affiliations.
Performs other related duties as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Must:
1.) Hold at minimum a master's degree
2.) Document three years clinical experience in the professional discipline
3.) Document two years of experience as an instructor in a JRCERT, JRC-NMT, or JRC-DMS program, and
4.) Hold current registration and licensure (if applicable) in discipline. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the Brown University Health with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years full-time experience radiologic technology and two years experience as an instructor in a JRCERT accredited program is required.
Demonstrate proficiency in curriculum design, program administration, evaluation, instruction and counseling.
Current knowledge of Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology(JRCERT), Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT), Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS), accrediting bodies for all disciplines, and RI Department of Health federal, state and regulatory agencies.
Ability to write and communicate effectively with all levels of hospital staff and faculty.
Analytical ability to assess federal and state laws and their impact on educational program, and the collect statistics for accreditation process and for other uses of this information.
Possesses mature and even-handed approach and associated abilities to communicate and function as primary source of arbitration to resolve or make recommendation for conflict resolution.
Must be able to effectively use computer-based programs to prepare classes and to present educational material to the students, i.e., PowerPoint, Word, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Sits, stands and walks intermittently throughout the day. Normal office conditions with occasional exposure to clinical areas. Clinic conditions include working with students and site visits if applicable.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisory responsibility for up to 10 FTEs.
