Position Summary The primary focus of this role is to support Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as the Senior Specialist for the Bothell facility within the Department of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS). As the Senior Specialist you will play an active role in supporting the company's environmental, health, safety, and sustainability efforts within the Bothell facility to drive long-term company and stakeholder value. The individual in this role will be responsible for managing the site environmental programs in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in aligning corporate and local policies and procedures and will foster a proactive and integrated EHS culture that promotes a positive, proactive approach throughout all operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, manage and assess risks pertaining to air, water, waste and soil.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and sustainability laws, regulations, codes, rules, and consensus guides.
  • Develop and implement new environmental programs, policies, and procedures and update and improve existing ones.
  • Prepare and maintain environmental reports, records, monitoring data and plans as required by regulation or company requirements.
  • Point of contact for environmental regulatory agencies and lead agency inspections or audits.
  • Manage a wide range of communications and preparation / distribution of EHS communications.
  • Develop, create, and manage site platforms, databases, and SharePoint for documentation of procedures, forms, SOPs, investigations, reporting, inspections, action items, communications, and other management system platforms and their outcomes in line with quality and EHS requirements.
  • Develop, create, and maintain, and distribute EHS reports, and records as assigned.
  • Manage the environmental training process for the site, including development of new and revised training, accurately assigning training based on guidelines, and supporting training records requests.
  • Perform and direct small spill cleanup activities for Hazardous, Non-Hazardous or Biohazardous materials.
  • Proactively collaborate across all functional departments at site and above-site.
  • Participate in EHS operational and tier discussions, EHS committees and teams; and EHS self-assessments, inspections, GEMBAs, and audits.
  • Review and ensure accurate and complete resolution of issues as they arise and escalates concerns, resource constraints, or needs with urgency to appropriate leaders in the organization.
  • Conduct chemical and biological risk assessments for processes and equipment as needed.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for injury/incident investigations and track corrective actions to completion.
  • Challenges the status quo and brings new approaches to continually improve the effectiveness of workflows and processes and learn and apply new concepts.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Environmental experience including but not limited to, hazardous waste, biologic waste, wastewater, storm water, SPCC, DOT hazardous material shipping, air emissions, GHG, permitting, remediation and sustainability.
  • Knowledge and understanding of EPA environmental regulations related to pollution prevention; Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Resource Conservation & Recovery Act, FIFRA, CERCLA, EPCRA, TSCA, SPCC.
  • 24-40 Hr. HAZWOPER training preferred.
  • Experience working in laboratory and manufacturing environment, with knowledge of GMP practices and procedures.
  • Experience working in a BSL-2 environment and possess an understanding of biosafety practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Experience with learning systems database (e.g., Intelex, Success Factors, etc.) preferred.
  • Previous experience developing program and plans related to federal and state environmental and transportation regulations.
  • Ability to take initiative and adapt to frequently changing priorities simultaneously and think creatively, critically, and strategically to solve problems in a complex environment with urgency and agility.
  • Experience handling confidential information and sensitive issues in a diplomatic manner to ensure integrity and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset that takes a proactive, solution-oriented approach to identifying issues and developing innovative and effective solutions to improve operations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proclivity for partnership and collaboration
Qualifications & Experience • Typical daily activities are onsite within an office environment but will also include working within the cleanroom manufacturing facilities and laboratories as needed, and occasionally outdoors. Basic Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in either an environmental discipline, chemistry or the biological sciences.
  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) plus years of EHS experience in a laboratory or manufacturing facility
  • Or relevant combined education and industry experience
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $82,000 - $102,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation is decid ed based on demonstrated experience.
