Job Description

• Support surgical procedures by setting up operating rooms with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Function as scrub person throughout surgical procedures.

Education & Certification Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) Certification required.
• Current National Certified Surgical Technologist certification OR Certified Surgical Technologist certification preferred.

Experience & Skills

• Recent or previous operating room experience preferred.
• Knowledge of surgical principles and skills.
• Ability to operate sterilizers, adjust operating tables and accessory devices, and handle instruments.
• Ability to work well within a team environment, including giving and receiving constructive feedback and collaborating with patient care team members.
• Ability to understand and carry out the vision of patient care focused on patient needs and expectations.
• Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing demands and environmental constraints.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, frequently push, pull, and lift patients and equipment.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate information among personnel, physicians, and patients.
• Commitment to customer service and professional behavior.

Required Credentials & Health Compliance

• BLS Certification (AHA or equivalent).
• COVID-19 Vaccination (2 doses required unless approved exemption).
• MMR Immunization or Titer with boosters if needed (no declinations accepted).
• Fit Test for N95 respirators within one year of start, updated annually.
• Hepatitis B Immunization or Titer with boosters if needed (signed declinations accepted).
• Influenza Vaccine (required Sept-April, exemptions case-by-case).
• Pre-employment physical within one year confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
• 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) testing with no declinations accepted.
• Varicella Immunization or Titer with boosters if needed (no declinations accepted).
• Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
• Annual TB Questionnaire completed, signed, and dated.
• If positive PPD, negative chest X-ray within one year of start.

Competency & Testing Requirements

• Unit-specific competency exam (passing score required, updated annually).
• Unit-specific skills checklist (updated annually).
• Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics (updated annually).
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually or after breaks in service.

Professional & Background Checks

• Submission of 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care setting.
• Criminal background check including nationwide searches, updated for breaks in service.
• OIG and EPLS federal exclusion checks within 90 days of start.
• FBI and BCI fingerprint clearance attestation within 12 months of start (updated after breaks in service).
• Social Security Card or SCC required.
• Signed work order confirmation and memo of understanding specific to clinical areas including surgical services.

This position requires a highly skilled, adaptable surgical technician committed to patient-centered care and teamwork in a fast-paced surgical environment. Compliance with all health, safety, and credentialing requirements is mandatory.
