Job Title: Veterinary AssistantLocation: Dakota Paws Veterinary HospitalPosition Type: Full-time/Part-timeJob Overview:We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Veterinary Assistant to join our caring and dedicated team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about animal welfare, possess excellent communication skills, and work well in a team-oriented environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play an essential role in providing supportive care to animals while assisting our veterinary team with daily tasks and procedures. Your compassionate nature and ability to work as part of a team will be vital to delivering excellent patient care and client service.Key Responsibilities:Animal Care & Handling: Assist in the care and comfort of animals, including restraining animals for examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures. Ensure animals are calm, safe, and comfortable during their visit.Assisting Veterinarians and Technicians: Provide support during exams, surgeries, and medical procedures by preparing equipment, assisting with patient monitoring, and ensuring the clinic is properly stocked and organized.Client Communication: Interact with pet owners to gather patient history, relay important information, and provide basic advice on care instructions. Maintain a compassionate and patient-centered approach when communicating with clients.Cleaning & Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the clinic by maintaining animal kennels, exam rooms, and treatment areas. Assist in sterilizing equipment and maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.Laboratory & Diagnostic Support: Assist with collecting and preparing samples for lab work (e.g., blood, urine, fecal samples). Help with administering medications, vaccines, and preventative treatments under the direction of veterinary staff.Inventory Management: Help track inventory of medical supplies, medications, and equipment. Notify the team when supplies need to be reordered or replaced.Administrative Support: Assist with scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and processing client payments. Provide general office support as needed.Qualifications:Experience: Previous experience in a veterinary setting preferred, but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate with a passion for animal care.Skills: Strong ability to handle animals safely and humanely. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm, positive demeanor. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Personal Attributes: Caring, compassionate, and empathetic toward animals and clients. Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate well with both co-workers and clients.Teamwork: Ability to collaborate and contribute to a supportive and efficient team environment.
