JOB SUMMARY:

This position provides leadership and strategy for the YWCA's Race Equity and Public Policy programs in support of the YWCA Minneapolis mission, vision and goals, in the areas of: quality program and event (i.e. IT2T) delivery, program development, implementation and evaluation and budget development. This position serves as a member of the senior leadership team and represents the YWCA of Minneapolis on racial justice and public policy related issues both locally and nationally.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead the vision and strategy of the department
  • Ensure high quality programs and services are offered and delivered to customers, clients and participants
  • Develop, update and formally document all program curriculum ensuring alignment with YWCA mission, vision and goals
  • Develop and implement annual Business Plan for Race Equity Consulting, workshops and facilitator training
  • Develop and implement sales strategy for consulting, IT2T sponsorship and IT2T attendees
  • Develop and implement annual Business Plan for IT2T event, ensuring a successful event
  • Provide staff leadership of IT2T Steering Committee
  • Provide staff leadership of Public Policy Committee
  • Ensure development and achievement of program budget
  • Partner with YWCA Marketing Director as it pertains to Race Equity and Public Policy and ensure program marketing strategies, activities and materials are planned, developed and implemented
  • Review and report on financial and sales activity and determine if changes in programs or services are necessary
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of programming in the Racial Justice industry by actively performing competitive research and analysis to evaluate existing programs as trends and standards change for continuous improvement and innovative opportunities
  • Ensure that department's financial goals are met
  • Ensure that all programming and operational practices are in alignment with Human Resources, Finance and IT standards and procedures
  • Establish external community and corporate partnerships that will enhance operations and brand awareness of our mission and goals.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate annual legislative and policy agenda, including advocacy plan
  • Evaluate new programming ideas, develop new products and services
  • Assist Organization Advancement team with Race Equity and Public Policy related grant reports and applications to strengthen and expand funding base
  • Oversee, set goals, and participate in Race Equity Diversity and Inclusion work internally
  • Act as a resource, both internal and external to the organization, on diversity, inclusion, race equity, and public policy issues.

Provide Leadership and Supervision:

  • Supervise, develop and provide leadership for Race Equity and Public Policy staff
  • Design, establish and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives
  • Ensure leadership and supervision practices are in alignment with Human Resources standards and procedures
  • Ensure compliance of employee health and safety
  • Facilitate personally or through subordinates, development activities that align with operational or strategic plans and YWCA mission and values

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer who reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The incumbent will work closely with the YWCA Leadership Team, Volunteer Coordinator, community representatives, and employees within the department and organization. Critical relationships will include: Chief Development Officer, Vice President of Human Resources, YWCA board members; Committee Chairs for It's Time to Talk Forums on Race Committee and Public Policy Committee; community leaders of color, and leaders with similar responsibilities in other organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Master’s Degree, or equivalent experience, in Public Policy, Organizational Development or related field.
  • A minimum of seven years program management experience.
  • A minimum of seven years in grassroots advocacy and lobbying/government relations.
  • Proven entrepreneurial and business start-up experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate the direction of Racial Justice and the intersection of racial justice and public policy in relation to YWCA’s mission, strategy and goals.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and effectively address challenges and anticipate future opportunities.
  • Ability to organize, manage and drive projects to completion.
  • Supports a climate of high achievement and accountability.
  • Knowledgeable in various aspects of racial justice and public policy, such as understanding privilege, unlearning racism, and related diversity issues.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills. Exceptional customer service skills to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, grantors, or members of the community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to large audiences of 1000 or more, top management, public groups, boards of directors, community people, staff and youth.
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills in dealing with individuals inside and outside the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to coach, empower staff, and give constructive feedback at all levels of the organization.
  • Financial management experience in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Must possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge and working ability with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives.
