Job Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for administrative and professional level work acting as a liaison between the court and the community. Work involves the initiation of victim contacts. Provides information, referrals, and other appropriate assistance to victims, including walk-in and call-in victims.


Essential Functions

Essential Functions: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.

Contact victims of crimes; provide notification of hearing dates and changes; assist victims with obtaining Temporary Protective Orders; provide assistance by referring them to community resources; coordinate with the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council to assist victims with securing aid and restitution.


Prepares file for prosecution; orders necessary reports for inclusion in the file; coordinates with public safety agencies to obtain reports and complete file.

Investigate and compile restitution information; notify victims of court dates by mail and phone.

Assists with grant writing and administration of grants. Prepares victims for the experience of testifying.

Communicates with other agencies regarding the needs of crime victims.


Provides administrative assistance; receives and responds to inquiries in person and over the phone; organizes and maintains files; trains support staff.

Obtains and files reports for Rockdale County Child Fatality Review Committee.


Additional Duties: Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by the District Attorney or proper authority.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of principles and techniques used in interacting with the crime victims. Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Skill in operating modern office equipment.

Ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public.

Ability to listen and maintain open communication with people who may be angry, frustrated, or fearful. Ability to deal with potential hostility and verbal abuse.

Ability to learn, interpret, and apply pertinent Federal, State, and County laws, codes, and regulations.

Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with co-workers, attorneys, judges, and crime victims.

Working Conditions

Normal office conditions. Occasionally will do home or on-site visits. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounter while performing the primary functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Minimum Qualifications

1) Associate's degree in social work, sociology, criminology, or a related field.

2) One (1) year of experience working with crime victims.

3) OR have a combination of education, training, and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

4) Victim Assistance Training (VAT) Certificate.
