Marathon is seeking reliable candidates for a cemetery Grounds Worker position available immediately in Charlottesville, VA!

The Cemetery Grounds Worker is responsible for the general maintenance, care, and appearance of the cemetery grounds. Duties include mowing, trimming, planting, digging graves, setting markers, and ensuring the property is kept in a respectful and pristine condition for visitors and services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Mow lawns, trim trees and bushes, remove weeds, and maintain flower beds
• Maintain walkways, driveways, and roadways—removing debris, leaves, and snow
• Operate and maintain grounds equipment including mowers, trimmers, and utility vehicles
• Inspect the grounds and report any vandalism, damage, or safety hazards
• Assist with setup and cleanup for burials and memorial services
• Install temporary tents, chairs, and other equipment for services as needed.
• Follow safety and health regulations related to outdoor and cemetery work
• Provide respectful interaction with visitors and families, maintaining a quiet, professional demeanor

Qualifications include:

• Prior experience in grounds keeping / landscaping required
• Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment
• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical labor
• Basic knowledge of tools, safety practices, and grounds care
• Sensitivity to the nature of the work environment and the grieving public
• Valid driver's license (required) and clean driving record
• Ability to pass a full background check and motor vehicle check

Pay rate is $14.00 per hour to start, may increase upon full time hire. Benefits available immediately include Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, depending on daily needs. Saturdays on as needed basis, half day possible during the week if Saturday is anticipated.
