The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Director, Health Information Technology Policy for our Washington, D.C. office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote). Starting base salary: $195,000 - $244,000 - $293,000 (commensurate with related experience). The Director, Health Information Technology Policy is responsible for taking a leadership role in developing and advocating policy positions regarding health information technology (IT) and cybersecurity policy and their application in federal programs. This includes supporting AHA members to understand changing federal policies that require the use of health IT; engaging in research and analysis that provides members with additional insights into the application and results of health IT, as well as representing the AHA and its members in policy forums, meetings with government and private sector officials, and multi-stakeholder forums. Actively develop and maintain a deep understanding of the evolving health IT and cybersecurity landscape and the implications for care delivery. Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following: Manage health information technology (IT) policy issues related to the adoption, use and security of IT by hospitals and health systems, including emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. Understand the respective roles of government agencies, health IT vendors, accrediting and certification organizations to ensure feasible, reliable and safe use of IT to inform clinical decisions, empower data collection and reporting, and track relevant clinical information for patients. Collaborate with quality leaders and teams across AHA to advance the near and long-term AHA advocacy strategy to support care delivery through effective IT. Develop and maintain effective relationships with IT leaders in government, hospital and health systems, accrediting organizations and other relevant health care associations. Manage health IT policy issues related to electronic health records, including AHA advocacy for the Medicare Promoting Interoperability program and associated electronic health record (EHR) certification requirements. Develop and maintain effective relationships with federal agencies and health informatics and technology organizations. Support and build the AHA relationship with relevant federal advisory committees on health IT and serve as a resource to hospital and health system members appointed to the committee. Serve as a resource for AHA members in understanding federal health IT regulations including electronic clinical quality measures, meaningful use of electronic health records and certification of health IT. Manage health IT policy issues related to cybersecurity. Coordinate and ensure alignment with the AHA cybersecurity and federal relations teams. When necessary, support the AHA response to widescale cybersecurity incidents. Manage health IT policy issues related to electronic health information exchange policy that advances interoperable health data. This includes engaging with federal officials and participating in relevant private sector collaborative efforts. Across all issues, collaborate and coordinate with the AHA federal relations and communications team members to support advocacy, public messaging, and the development of policy maker, member and public-facing materials. Collaborate with and provide support to other AHA team members on issues that include a health information technology aspect.
