Salary: $60,920 - $84,711

A comprehensive community college, we offer instruction in Transitional Studies to include awarding a high school diploma, GED preparation, and English to Speakers of Other Languages; academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates; four applied baccalaureate degrees, and community education in our two-county region. Responsible to prepare and teach primarily Political Science courses including American Government, Intro to Political Science, and other common course numbered Political Science course(s). Essential Functions

  • Prepare and teach primarily Intro to Political Science, American Government, and Political Theory, with the possibility of teaching International Relations, and Environmental Policy course(s) as well as other Political Science courses regularly offered.
  • Teach in-person courses in Bremerton and at branch campus in Poulsbo and Shelton when required.
  • Provide quality teaching including related preparation, grading, and record keeping; class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested; academic advising and assessment for students.
  • Contribute to development of Political Science curriculum and student learning outcomes.
    Maintain physical office hours for student consultation; attend faculty, department and division meetings, serve on college committees and participate in college governance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Political Science or related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18semester credit hours in graduate level Political Science.
  • Teaching Experience in Political Science
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Political Science
  • College teaching experience, particularly community college teaching experience.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Successful Completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment.

  • Mastery knowledge of Political Science course content areas;
  • Ability to design and implement Political Science course curriculum meeting the standards of college-level Political Science in accordance with state-wide and nationally normed expectations (APSA) as well as program needs across the college;
  • Ability to utilize a variety of teaching methods and modalities to engage and meet the educational needs of diverse student populations;
  • Ability to accommodate accessibility and other special accommodations via course materials and classroom activities as needed;
  • Willingness and ability to collaborate with peers and to work as part of an educational team;
  • Ability to incorporate the use of technology (i.e. Learning Management Systems) to support instruction (Web Enhanced, hybrid, hi-flex, and/or synchronous/asynchronous online);
  • Ability to maintain discipline, course and student records in a professional and timely manner;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, and learning centered climate.

  • Collaborate successfully with colleagues, staff and students as part of an educational team;
  • Contribute and/or collaborate with OC faculty in the development of Diversity and Social Justice based courses and/or I-BEST learning opportunities;
  • Incorporate the use of technology in the delivery of course content and services, including the use of a learning management system (ability to teach online, ITV and/or hybrid desired);
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning-centered climate.

Additional Information

Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently 73 752 authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment. This is a full-time tenure track faculty position contracted on an annual basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual contract days remaining in the academic year. The salary listed is a range based on per month for the quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments may be a part of the instructional load.
