Job Description and Duties

The Schools Evaluation and Brownfields Outreach Branch (SEBO), in the Site Mitigation and Restoration Program (SMP), is looking for a highly energetic technical engineer who has experience with project management of fast paced environmental investigation and cleanup projects and has an affinity for data mining, analysis and reporting. In this exciting role, the selected candidate will manage complex environmental investigation and remediation projects, reviews and comments on technical documents prepared by others, directs, oversees, and/or reviews the work done by contractors; and independently conducts site specific projects.

As a Senior Hazardous Substances Engineer you will have the opportunity to:

• Provide expert engineering consultative services to DTSC project managers on the most complex and controversial sites
• Independently direct or evaluate technology screening or selection, feasibility studies, lab or field treatability testing, design/construction of remedial actions, and operation and maintenance of treatment facilities
• Oversee the preparation of technical specifications for contracts and assisting in contractor selection for a given project
• Review contractor performance recommend approval for field change orders and work orders, and reviews invoices
• Use existing computer software to evaluate site investigation data, model groundwater or vapor flow, design of treatment systems, process evaluations, estimate costs and schedule projects
• Effectively plan, organize, control, coordinate and complete complex hazardous substance cleanup projects that require extensive coordination, and effectively works with multiple programs and agencies to achieve DTSC’s mission and objectives

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:

• Possession of a PE license in the State of CA
• Knowledge and experience in project management
• Knowledge of Site investigation
• Characterization & Cleanup

Working Conditions

A hybrid schedule may be available for this position.  This  position is headquartered in Cypress, CA.
