Description

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Knowledgeable Education and Training Coordinator to lead our new pilot program focused on the Firearm Restraining Order (FRO) Act.
  • Provide education and train practitioners, law enforcement, and the general public, with a special emphasis on households with individuals who may have dementia and those at risk for domestic violence, suicide, and violence.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs on the FRO Act, including its goals, types, petition process, duration, functionality, required evidence, and termination/extension procedures.
  • Conduct training sessions for health care providers, emphasizing their role in reporting Clear and Present Danger and increasing awareness of the FRO.
  • Collaborate closely with state partners (Cook and Lake County) to utilize and promote their outreach and education materials, as well as other gun safety campaigns.
  • Tailor educational content to meet the needs of various audiences, including practitioners, law enforcement, and the public.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, and informational sessions in Cook and Lake Counties
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the training programs and make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the FRO Act and related legislation to ensure accurate and relevant training content.
  • Implement other projects, activities, or job duties as assigned
Requirements

Attributes/Skills Required/Sought:
  • Experience providing service in community programs, facilitating groups, public speaking, and prevention.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs, preferably in a legal or public health context.
  • Displays sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in SGA service population
  • Understand and apply principles, methods, procedures, and strategies utilized in the development of a comprehensive program designed strong understanding of the Firearm Restraining Order Act and related legislation.
Experiences/Education Required/Sought:
  • Associate's Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university, or two years' experience working with youth and families.
  • Knowledge of issues related to dementia, domestic violence, suicide prevention, and violence prevention
  • Valid transportation and valid insurance
